{"id":385,"date":"2014-06-25T14:21:01","date_gmt":"2014-06-25T18:21:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.westlakebaptist.org\/blog\/?p=385"},"modified":"2014-06-25T14:21:01","modified_gmt":"2014-06-25T18:21:01","slug":"1-corinthians-6-lawsuits-among-christians","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.westlakebaptist.org\/blog\/1-corinthians-6-lawsuits-among-christians\/","title":{"rendered":"1 Corinthians 6-Lawsuits Among Christians"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The first 11 verses of 1 Corinthians 6 deal with Christians suing each other.\u00a0 In verse one Paul asks the question, would the just (saints) dare to go to the unjust for judgment?\u00a0 He asks it very emphatically as though he can\u2019t believe they would do such a thing.\u00a0 In verse 2 Paul basically says, you are going to sit on the bench of the Supreme Court and you can\u2019t even handle a small matter amongst yourselves?\u00a0 Certainly in America this is the case today.\u00a0 It seems as though if you can think it, there is a lawyer ready to sue about it.\u00a0 Paul says that problem is that the Corinthians are worried about themselves rather than others and the Gospel.\u00a0 They didn\u2019t care how it looked to the lost world around them, they just wanted to get what was theirs.\u00a0 We see it in verses 7 and 8, \u201cNow therefore there is utterly a fault among you, because ye go to law one with another: Why do ye not rather take wrong?\u00a0 Why do ye not rather suffer yourselves to be defrauded?\u00a0 Nay, ye do wrong, and defraud, and that your brethren.\u201d\u00a0 Paul says you don\u2019t want to suffer wrong or be defrauded, but you go and wrong and defraud your brother in Christ.<\/p>\n<p>We as Christians must always be aware of how our actions are perceived by a watching world.\u00a0 If we identify ourselves as Christians, then we must certainly have the actions to back it up.\u00a0 Therefore, whether you are a church or a Christian running a business, you must always conduct yourself and your business above reproach.\u00a0 In verses 9-10 Paul lists several different types of sin.\u00a0 It is obviously not an exhaustive list, but it demonstrates and represents all sinners.\u00a0 Then Paul says in the beginning of verse 11, \u201cand such were some of you.\u201d\u00a0 Why would Paul lump lawsuits and sins together in speaking to the Corinthian Christians?\u00a0 He was telling them that these lawsuits amongst themselves is displaying their old way of life.\u00a0 He is not saying they are not genuinely saved, rather he is pointing out that they are not living like it.\u00a0 Christians are not to be a doormat, but neither are they to be vindictive, hateful, or harmful.\u00a0 Again the main point here is that a lost world is watching and we are giving them the wrong idea about God and how Christians should live with some of our behavior.\u00a0 Be on guard and careful, because someone is always watching!<\/p>\n<p>By His grace and through His strength may we live for Him<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The first 11 verses of 1 Corinthians 6 deal with Christians suing each other.\u00a0 In verse one Paul asks the question, would the just (saints) dare to go to the unjust for judgment?\u00a0 He asks it very emphatically as though &hellip; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westlakebaptist.org\/blog\/1-corinthians-6-lawsuits-among-christians\/\">Read More <span class=\"meta-nav\">&rarr;<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"spay_email":""},"categories":[164],"tags":[254,253,60,252,9],"jetpack_featured_media_url":"","_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.westlakebaptist.org\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/385"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.westlakebaptist.org\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.westlakebaptist.org\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.westlakebaptist.org\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.westlakebaptist.org\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=385"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/www.westlakebaptist.org\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/385\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":386,"href":"https:\/\/www.westlakebaptist.org\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/385\/revisions\/386"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.westlakebaptist.org\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=385"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.westlakebaptist.org\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=385"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.westlakebaptist.org\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=385"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
