{"id":592,"date":"2018-11-06T10:25:24","date_gmt":"2018-11-06T15:25:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.westlakebaptist.org\/blog\/?p=592"},"modified":"2018-11-06T10:25:24","modified_gmt":"2018-11-06T15:25:24","slug":"biblical-wisdom-in-the-social-media-age","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.westlakebaptist.org\/blog\/biblical-wisdom-in-the-social-media-age\/","title":{"rendered":"Biblical Wisdom In The Social Media Age"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This blog is a follow-up from this past Sunday\u2019s message on biblical wisdom.\u00a0The main point of this past Sunday was that we as Christians need to make sure that we act according to biblical wisdom.\u00a0 Biblical wisdom considers not only the immediate consequences of our words and actions.\u00a0But it also considers how an action today could affect me or my loved ones down the road.\u00a0 The key thought I want to express here is for us to remember Paul\u2019s words in 2 Corinthians 5:20, \u201cSo we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us.\u00a0 We implore you in Christ\u2019s stead: Be reconciled to God.\u201d\u00a0 As a Christian we have a mission, that is to make disciples of Jesus of all nations.\u00a0 We are His representatives to the world.\u00a0 Therefore, we must give careful consideration to how we live, what we say, and especially in today\u2019s digital world, what we post.<\/p>\n<p>We live in a social media age.\u00a0 Most everyone has at least one social media account.\u00a0 Social media can be a good thing.\u00a0 However, it can also be a very dangerous thing or a destructive thing.\u00a0Because of our social media age, people feel free to write and post whatever they want, think, or feel in the moment.\u00a0 Because you are behind a computer screen, you don\u2019t have to be concerned with the tone of your message or how someone may react to your message.\u00a0 Unfortunately, very little thought is put into most social media posts or the potential ramifications of your posts.\u00a0 Most people don\u2019t realize that employers or potential future employers look at your social media pages.\u00a0 People don\u2019t realize that employers make decisions every day to not hire or to hire someone based on their social media accounts.\u00a0 Your social media activity can even be causation for termination at your job if you reflect poorly upon your employer.\u00a0 So wisdom here would ask a few questions.\u00a0 First, what is right or wrong about my post according to God?\u00a0 Second, will my post honor God or turn people off from God?\u00a0 Finally, how could this post cause problems in the future for me or those closest to me?\u00a0 Simply put, think before you post!\u00a0 If you are angry or fired up about something, write it all out on your social media timeline, and before you hit post, delete it all.\u00a0 Or if you are going to send an angry e-mail to someone, write it all out, and before you hit send, delete the message.\u00a0 You will feel better for having gotten all your thoughts out, but without the negative consequences and future ramifications of a lack of knowledge and understanding.\u00a0 Plus it is a great way for God to reveal what is truly in your heart, so you can confess your sin and ask Him for help in overcoming your sinful thoughts, words, and attitudes.<\/p>\n<p>Remember, everything you say, do, or post reflects not only on you as a person, but it also reflects on the God you say you love.\u00a0 Let\u2019s make sure that we represent Jesus in a biblically faithful way whether in person or on social media.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This blog is a follow-up from this past Sunday\u2019s message on biblical wisdom.\u00a0The main point of this past Sunday was that we as Christians need to make sure that we act according to biblical wisdom.\u00a0 Biblical wisdom considers not only &hellip;
